Futenma Air Base

LOCATION: Ginowan City

DESCRIPTION:

Located at the center of Ginowan City, the base covers 25% of land area of the city. Therefore the city is forced to build itself around the base. Home base for the 36th Marine Air Wing, has a 2,800 meter (7,681 ft) runway. A total of 64 planes and helicopters are stationed on this base. There are local schools right beside the base and there classes are often interrupted by the noise the planes and helicopters make.
